• Pressure to conform to mainstream ideas of “sexy”

• Legal or social consequences for your relationship style

• Attacks on gender identity and transgender rights

• Lack of knowledge about your own body

• Loss of reproductive autonomy and access to healthcare

• Feeling fetishized or objectified without your consent

• Guilt over your sexual desires

• Shame about your body shape or size or ability

• Discomfort talking openly about sex with your partners

• Feeling judged for having too much or too little sexual experience or sexual desire

• Difficulty knowing and setting boundaries for yourself

• Stigma around sexually transmitted infections

• and so much more…

 

In Sex Positive World, we stand against sex negativity by empowering people to take back their agency and learn more sex positive ways to connect through workshops, events, and in-person local communities.

Our work makes a difference. We help people get comfortable saying “no” and, moreover, comfortable hearing “no” from someone else. We help people own their desires and ask for what they want. Through our workshops either in-person or over video we help people gain comfort and confidence in owning and expressing their sexuality.  Our work interconnects with the dismantling of other forms of oppression, including racism, sexism, homophobia, fatphobia, ableism, and so many others.

Sex negativity won’t be fixed in a day. We’ve been around for 13 years and counting and will keep showing up to do the work for many years to come. However to do that, we need your support.

Our organization is working to make ourselves financially sustainable and to bring more diverse voices into leadership.   While historically we have run on pure volunteer power, it has left us vulnerable to high turnover and burnout, and has limited our growth and potential because only the most time financially privileged people can easily volunteer. We have big dreams and are committed to compensating our amazing leaders from all walks of life, for the many hours they put in to help make these dreams a reality.
